On August 17 and 31, 2024, International Laboratories Co., Ltd. (ILC) participated in a beach cleanup activity at Cha-am Beach, Cha-am Subdistrict, Cha-am District, Phetchaburi Province.

Marine debris is not only caused by disposing waste directly into the sea but also by littering on the beach. When the tide rises, it sweeps the beach litter back into the sea, contributing to the marine debris problem. Currently, marine debris is a significant issue in Thai waters, adversely affecting both tourism and marine life. Many marine animals, such as sea turtles, mistake plastic bottles and bags for jellyfish, their natural prey, leading to ingestion of plastic waste, which can result in fatal consequences.

Furthermore, certain types of marine debris, including microplastics and large plastic waste, block sunlight needed by phytoplankton and seaweed for photosynthesis. This reduction in phytoplankton and seaweed negatively impacts the marine food chain, leading to a decline in marine animal populations. All of these issues are directly related to marine debris.

Recognizing the importance of marine life and Thai seas, International Laboratories Co., Ltd. organized the beach cleanup activity to help address the marine debris problem. The company’s goal is to preserve the seas and marine life for the benefit of future generations.
